DID YOU KNOW Our experienced Billingham electricians carry out all wiring in accordance with BS 7671 (IEE Wiring Regulations), All customers are provided with a detailed certificate confirming this at job completion. Electricity is now the major cause of accidental fires in UK homes. Government statistics show that electricity causes more than 20,000 fires a year - almost half of all accidental UK house fires. Each year, about 70 people are killed and 350,000 are seriously injured due to an electrical accident in the home. All electrical installations deteriorate with age and use. They should therefore be inspected and tested at appropriate intervals to check whether they are in a satisfactory condition for continued service. Such safety checks are commonly referred to as 'periodic inspection and testing'.

Although not everyone is aware, domestic electrics should be subjected to testing and inspection at least every 10 years, or every 5 years for rented properties. Periodic inspection should also be carried out is when a property is being prepared for letting. Although many incidents are caused by faulty appliances rather than the electrical installation itself, a properly installed and well maintained electrical system could save lives. It is a legal requirement for all electrical work carried out both internally and externally to comply with Part P of the Building Regulations.
